KENNETH M. WILLIS – TRIAL ATTORNEY
Kenneth was born and raised on the Westbank of New Orleans in Marrero, Louisiana where he graduated from John Ehret High School in 2001. Kenneth attended Southern University and A&M College of Baton Rouge, LA where in only in three years, he earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Management, ranking number one in his class in the College of Business. During his college summer break, under the tutelage of Judge C. Hunter King, Kenneth first became acquainted with the legal profession by working as a summer employee for the Orleans Parish Civil District Court in New Orleans, LA.
Kenneth was then accepted into Southern University Law Center in the fall of 2005. As a law student, Kenneth flourished while competing in several mock trial competitions and trying criminal cases as a student attorney for the East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney’s Office in conjunction with Southern University’s Criminal Law Clinic. It was from these experiences Kenneth realized he was born to be a trial lawyer. While in law school, Kenneth also held a judicial clerkship for Judge Yvette M. Alexander in Baton Rouge City Court.
Upon graduation from law school, Kenneth accepted a position as a law clerk for Judge Alonzo Harris at the 27th Judicial District Court of St. Landry Parish in Opelousas, LA. As a sounding board to Judge Harris in matters pertaining to civil and criminal law, Kenneth gained insightful knowledge and instant exposure to the inner workings of the judicial system.
Kenneth’s upbringing and personal experiences fueled his passion to represent the poor, disenfranchised, afflicted and abused. In 2008, at the tender age of 25, Kenneth established the Willis Law Firm, LLC and currently serves as the firm’s owner and managing attorney. Kenneth also served as a Felony Indigent Defender for the St. Landry Parish Judicial District Court in Opelousas, Louisiana. In less than two years as an Indigent Defender, Kenneth’s reputation and expertise as a trial attorney afforded him a promotion by St. Landry Parish Indigent Defender’s Office to exclusively handle serious felony offenses, including high-profile cases that carry life sentence or death penalties.
Kenneth is a member of the Louisiana and New York State Bar and serves each state as a trial attorney with a primary focus in Criminal Defense and Civil Litigation. Kenneth is also a member of the New York City Bar Association. As an attorney, Kenneth has been interviewed by Rolling Stone Magazine, KATC 3 ABC News, and the Advocate, referenced in the Los Angeles Times, featured in Essence Magazine and appeared on ESPN.
Outside the legal profession, Kenneth serves his community as a mentor and a High School Football Official for the Louisiana High School Athletic Association. Kenneth is also highly touted as a keynote speaker in addressing the youth and young adults of his community.
Kenneth is the proud son of the late Lawrence Willis, Jr. and Maria F. Willis and married to Attorney Stephanie Legros-Willis, they have a lovely son.
